Taught me how to put all my faith in God not in man and
By example showed me that if you'll simply go after that thing
That you want, with all your capacity strength & sagacity...
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the will, which says to them: "hold on"
And having been born of goodly parents, therefore I was
Taught somewhat in all the learning of my father
A father who does his duty to God and his country and is
Trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind,
obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.
Who in the fell clutch of circumstance
has not winced nor cried aloud.
We never knew where the hours went on the hilltop that day.
Perhaps it's like this in the kingdom of heaven…
Say! Do you remember - no of course you wouldn't,
it probably didn't make the same impression
on you as it did on me...
Do you remember the day we flew the kites?
This is my father.
The father who protects - supports - comforts
The truest stouthearted man I know
He is humble -- he is stalwart
And everyday prays to his own Father in Heaven
To be the man He wouldst have him be
A man I know he already is.
